After hectic school building activity in the year 1996, Round Table India realized its own potential to contribute to a national cause as an organization in an organized and sustained manner.

In 1996, Round Table India built 138 class rooms in 25 schools at a cost of Rs 2.4 Crores. In the subsequent year, RTI built 192 class rooms in 48 schools at a cost of Rs 6.6 Crores. This prompted the organization to take up the activity of building infrastructure for primary schools, especially for underprivileged children in urban, semi-urban and rural areas.

As a result, in 1998, Round Table India adopted "Freedom Through Education" as its national long term project.

Since then, it has built more than 3700 classrooms in 1200 schools at a cost of over Rs 8 crores that has benefited more than 8 lakh children directly. Conservative estimates put the number of children that would be benefited over a 25 year life cycle of the classroom at about 23.8 lakhs.

The highlight of this project is that Round Table India has spent every rupee raised as donation, for the projects. The administration cost for every community service activity or a project is always paid by the Tablers themselves. This ensures more value for money relatively.

As per MHRD estimates of 2001 Census, over 50 million children between the age of 6 and 14 were out of school. This indicates that the amount of work required in this field is Herculean.

The challenge that Round Table India faces is not of the ability and the capacity to undertake construction of more and more schools but that of raising funds for the projects.

Round Table India has a pan India presence and has the capacity to build a school almost anywhere. Round Table India also has the resources to match the contributions if suitable.
